Here at LightCastle, we believe in the power of community. We believe that when people come together around shared values it can produce some of the most revolutionary ideas and products. To that end, we support numerous efforts to help build a greater sense of community, both regionally and at a more local level.
One of the first things we did as a company was to sponsor a new Meetup.com group: Open Source Staunton. We wanted to provide a venue for regional technologists to discuss emerging and existing Open Source technologies, how to promote their adoption, and to get hands-on experience with them. The group is open to programmers of all experience level, from veteran to first-timer, and numerous members have pitched in to support the group through financial donations, helping to provide food and drinks for the events.
One of our favorite annual events in the region is beCamp, a technology conference held in Charlottesville. In fact, we like it so much that we stepped up to organize the 2014 event! And we’re proud to say that it had one of the highest turnouts in recent history. The conference brings attendees together to discuss cutting edge technology in both the hardware and software sectors.
We’re also proud supporters of the go local movement. Doing business locally helps to create jobs, opportunities and an increased sense community. And when the people you do business with are your neighbors and friends, you’re going to have a better experience than you would dealing with large corporations, where you’re too often just a number.
Another community event we like to promote is Innovate Live, a conference geared toward finding new ways to promote and develop Staunton into a more economically and artistically thriving metropolis.
